Seattle Parks Offers Free Swim Lessons at Green Lake to Tackle Racial Disparities in Drowning Deaths

Seattle Parks and Recreation has launched Swim Seattle, a pilot programme offering free swimming lessons to school-aged children to tackle racial disparities in drowning deaths as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report the drowning death rate for Black Americans is 1.5 times higher than the rate for white Americans, a disparity that Green Lake, surrounded by parks and beaches, can hope to reduce.

Green Lake Elementary among Seattle schools changing start times to save $4 million

Seattle schools are changing start times for some schools in order to save $4 million and streamline bus schedules due to a $131 million budget deficit. Seven schools, including Green Lake Elementary, will start an hour later next year, while five schools will start an hour earlier.

Green Lake Park: A Summer Oasis in Seattle Amid National Lifeguard Shortage

Seattle Parks and Recreation has released their 2023 Summer Pool, Spraypark, and Beach Hours, with several pools and beaches remaining non-operational due to the national lifeguard shortage. However, Green Lake Park's wading pool will be open from June 24 to August 20, and Green Lake's beach will be guarded daily starting on June 24.
