Navigating the Tug-of-War between Homelessness and Encampment Sweeps in Ballard and Green Lake, Seattle
Businesses and homeless advocates in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle say they feel caught in a tug-of-war as encampment sweeps only seem to temporarily displace the homeless. Homeless advocates suggest that the first step to recovery is safe housing, with tiny homes being the preferred transitional option, but with limited viable options for housing, encampments will likely continue to be an ongoing issue, as seen in the recent sweeps in both Ballard and Green Lake.

Seattle Doctors Embrace Weight-Inclusive Care for Healthier Outcomes Near Green Lake
Some doctors in Seattle are ditching the scale and instead focusing on weight-neutral, or weight-inclusive care, as patient testimonials and research show that focusing on weight has often led to misdiagnoses. Dr. Lisa Erlanger, a professor at UW Medicine, has created a seminar about weight stigma for students close to becoming doctors, dentists, physical therapists, and other health professionals and has been training future providers to look beyond their patients' weights to identify their health needs.
